The History of Earl L. Morris Company (ELMCO)
The Elmco Group, originally Earl L. Morris Company, was founded in 1945. In 2010, the company celebrated its 65th year in business. Earl L. Morris (1913-2003), the founder, was born in Los Angeles, California. During World War II, he sold pipe valves, fittings and other related products to many Southern California shipyards.
In late 1940, Earl recognized that the type of products he enjoyed selling were specified by the engineer, and then sold & installed as specified. Five years later, he founded the Earl L. Morris Company on the principle of selling the finest engineered plumbing products available. In the early 1950s, the company’s name was changed to Elmco Sales, Inc. (ELMCO is an acronym for Earl L. Morris Company). The company’s name remained Elmco Sales until 2012, when it was renamed Elmco Group. In 2013, the Arizona branch of Elmco/Stewart was renamed Elmco Sales; the Las Vegas branch retains the Elmco/Stewart name.
The Elmco Group is headquartered in City of Industry, California. Don Morris, as Chairman of the Board/CEO, works with each of the independent divisions under the Elmco Group. Don started in the representative business out of college in 1969, first in various sales positions, later as President, and for the last decade, as Chairman. Don states, “Elmco has represented the Morris Group divisions, such as Jay R. Smith Mfg. Co., for over 50 years on a handshake and a 30-day contract. The representative business depends on trust and a mutually profitable relationship between the manufacturer and the manufacturer’s representative. It is a marriage and can go through ups and downs, but if the trust can be maintained, the relationship can last and last.”
The Elmco Group is now celebrating 65 years of business. Consisting of five different branches with seven different locations, the Elmco Group continues to offer superior service to our valued customers by maintaining the relationships that have made us so successful for the past 65 years.
